What is geoengineering?

Climate geoengineering refers to large-scale schemes for interven- tion in the earth’s oceans, soils and atmosphere with the aim of re- ducing the effects of climate change, usually temporarily. It includes many techniques. read more

SOLAR RADIATION MANAGEMENT Blocking the sun to cool the planet GREENHOUSE GAS REMOVAL Sucking CO2 out of the air EARTH RADIATION MANAGEMENT Sending heat into space

Why oppose?

This much we know: geoengineering techniques do nothing to address the root causes of climate change, and evidence points to a high likelihood that rather than improving the climate, they will make things worse. read more

Social & Ecological impacts Land theft, drought, dead zones Undermines real solutions Drains funding from mitigation efforts we know will work Militarization Control of weather for geopolitical ends

Regions affected

Because of its planetary scale, climate geoengineering potentially affects every part of the planet. But some regions face more potential destructive effects and localized disruptions.
